Gaited Longears Limited Breeding Season Schedule:
We will ship (with sufficient notice) any day FedEx is operating, Monday through Friday for delivery Tuesday through Saturday, starting mid March, with the following exceptions:
- Legal Holidays
- If we know of no client mares that are close to ovulation, we sometimes run away for an overnight ride, so it is imperative that you keep us informed of your mare's condition. We want every mare settled by the end of the season!
- Collection and shipping is by Julie Fullerton at Fullerton Insemination Station, Bayard, NE. Phone: (308) 586-3008 Email: fullerton@bbcwb.net
What you need to know about breeding your mare by shipped cooled semen:
- Have your mare checked for reproductive soundness.
- Fill out and return the breeding contract plus lab/shipping fee (or booking fee/deposit to hold your place) as specified in the contract, and we will await your call for semen shipment. Let us know if you want us to return a copy of the breeding contract for you records. No semen will be shipped before the contract and breeding fees are received in our office.
- It is helpful to be able to tease your mare with a gelding or nearby stallion. Knowing when your mare is cycling and save on vet bills. When your mare is in heat, you will need to work closely with your veterinarian to ascertain where your mare is in her cycle and when she will ovulate thus determining when semen is needed. Call us to alert us as soon as you know that your mare is in heat. We can work directly with your vet if it is more convenient.
- We need 24 hour notice to ship. Please give us enough notice. If there is a chance you will need semen the next day, let us know to wait for your call in the morning. Communication is the key to getting your mare settled. We will call you or your vet's office with a tracking number as soon as we have a shipment ready to go.
- Your vet will inseminate your mare. There will be two 40 ml packets of cooled semen. It is strongly advised to use the first packet of semen with 24 hours of collection for the best chance of pregnancy. If there is a delay, the entire container may be put into a refrigerator to keep the temperature at 40 degrees F.
- Have your mare checked at 14 to 18 days after the last day bred. An ultrasound test is the best method to detect pregnancy. 30% of all mares have false heats when they are actually pregnant.
- If the mare is not in foal, you may be shipped semen as often as necessary, throughout this breeding season and a return privilege next season. However, each additional shipment will require a lab/shipping fee as specified in the contract.
- In the event your mare fails to conceive, you may substitute another mare that you own (or lease) for the remainder of your contract. You must inform us of any intended change in mares in writing, so that we can adjust your contract as necessary.
